Weight Classes in ELITE

Weight Classes in ELITE by Golden Mongkhon

One of the most common questions fighters ask is:

“What weight classes does ELITE use?”

ELITE by Golden Mongkhon follows a structured weight class system designed to create fair, competitive, and meaningful professional Muay Thai matchups.

At present, ELITE hosts professional male Muay Thai competition across five weight divisions.

Rather than creating a large number of categories, we have intentionally focused on a select group of divisions to ensure competitive depth and high-quality matchups within each weight class.

What Weight Classes Does ELITE Use?

ELITE currently hosts professional Muay Thai bouts in the following divisions:

  • -57kg
  • -60kg
  • -63kg
  • -66kg
  • -69kg

These five divisions form the foundation of ELITE’s professional competition structure.

As the championship continues to grow, additional divisions may be considered in the future based on athlete participation and competitive demand.

Why Does ELITE Use Kilograms Instead of Pounds?

Muay Thai is a global sport.

Across most international Muay Thai competitions, athlete weight is measured in kilograms rather than pounds.

For this reason, ELITE follows the kilogram system for all official weigh-ins, rankings, and championship bouts.

Using kilograms creates consistency with international Muay Thai standards and allows athletes from different regions to compete under a familiar and recognised format.

Why Only Five Weight Classes?

The goal of ELITE is not simply to create more divisions.

The goal is to create stronger divisions.

By focusing on five carefully selected weight categories, ELITE can build deeper talent pools, stronger rankings, more meaningful matchups, and clear championship pathways for athletes.

A smaller number of divisions also helps maintain competitive standards and ensures that championship opportunities are earned through performance rather than divided across too many categories.

At ELITE, quality of competition comes before quantity of divisions.

Current Male Divisions

At this stage, ELITE competitions are exclusively open to male professional Muay Thai athletes.

This decision allows the championship to establish a strong competitive structure during its early stages of growth.

However, ELITE recognises the incredible growth and achievements of female Muay Thai athletes around the world.

As the platform continues to expand, plans are being developed to introduce professional female divisions in the future.

Our long-term vision is to provide opportunities for elite athletes while maintaining the same professional standards across all divisions.

How Strict Are ELITE Weigh-Ins?

Weight classes exist to ensure fairness and athlete safety.

For this reason, ELITE applies strict weight requirements during official weigh-ins.

Athletes must weigh within their registered weight category.

There are no additional grams allocated above the official division limit.

For example:

  • A fighter competing at -57kg must weigh 57.00kg or less.
  • A fighter competing at -60kg must weigh 60.00kg or less.
  • A fighter competing at -63kg must weigh 63.00kg or less.
  • A fighter competing at -66kg must weigh 66.00kg or less.
  • A fighter competing at -69kg must weigh 69.00kg or less.

Even a small amount above the weight limit may result in further review under event regulations.

Athletes and coaches are strongly encouraged to manage weight professionally and arrive prepared for official weigh-ins.

Choosing the Right Weight Class

Selecting the correct weight class is an important part of an athlete’s professional career.

Competing at the appropriate weight helps athletes perform at their best while supporting long-term health and performance.

ELITE encourages athletes to work closely with their coaches and support teams when determining the most suitable division.

The objective should never be extreme weight cutting.

The objective should be optimal performance.
